There are lots of ways to direct a domain name to a different domain or subdomain and one of them is by setting up a CNAME record. If you own a domain name and you've set up a site through some online service that provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you will achieve as a result is that www.your-domain.com will be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned Internet site from the servers of the third-party company. You should know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop functioning, so you can't have both a CNAME record pointing to one company and working e-mail address with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and frequently further configuration may be required with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

In case you have a cloud web hosting plan through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it will take you only a few mouse clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domains and subdomains hosted within your account from the Hepsia CP that comes with each and every plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the modification. If you have never added such a record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have set up a site using another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks in your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it requires just a couple of mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed through our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will discover a section devoted to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted in the account. To set up a CNAME record, you'll only have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), key in where the latter is going to be redirected to and save the modification. The new record is going to be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within a few hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is just as simple and easy and takes a click. If you experience any problems, you can go through our detailed help article, watch the short video on the subject that we have added in the Control Panel, or you can just contact us for assistance.
