Whenever you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that specific service provider. On their end, three records are set up automatically as soon as the domain address is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the Internet domain where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that manages the emails for that particular Internet domain. The site and the email hosting are often perceived as one thing, when they are in reality two different services. Having different records for them will allow you to have them with different providers if you want. As an example, some new provider can have exceptional uptime for your website, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain address to the former and MX records to have the emails with the second, you could get the best of both providers. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an email - in any case, the service provider whose name servers are used for the domain address will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed site or your email is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting account with our company and you would like to switch either your website or your emails to another service provider, it will take you literally only 2 clicks to do it. Our Hepsia Control Panel offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard 2, it will not take more than a few clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of each record that you change or set up isn't going to take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated plans that we provide, you'll have full control over the records of all domains and subdomains which you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records every one of them has from the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and modifying any record takes only a couple of mouse clicks. If you want to switch your web or email hosting provider, you can change the necessary record and direct your domain address to the other company for one of the services, while you still keep using the other one through us. You can also keep the main domain here, while you change the A record of only one of its subdomains. In case you are editing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the default two that we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for every single one.
